The way that you will watch TV and movies in the future is not how you watch them right now. Several devices have come out that are redefining the way we receive our in-house entertainment. The LG BD 390 Network Blu-ray Disc Player is one of these devices.

What is a network Blu-ray disc player anyway?

I will tell you a funny story. My friend Shirley wanted to get a Blu-ray disc player because she had seen the improved video quality at her friends house. She visited Amazon.com and simply bought the best selling Blu-ray disc player, the LG BD 390.

I asked her, “Have you been downloading movies from Netflix?”

She looked at me oddly and said: “Richard, this is a Blu-ray player. I can’t watch movies from the Internet!”

We had a good laugh as I said, “Shirley, this is a networked Blu-ray disc that you have. Not only can you download movies from Netflix and many other sources, you can also view the media from your computer!”

Shirley was dumbfounded as she did not realize the capabilities that her LG BD 390 Blu-ray disc offered.

If you are looking to buy a Blu-ray disc player this holiday season, you definitely want to consider this model. Why? Because it is much more that just a Blu-ray disc player.

The LG BD 390 Blu-ray disc player is a networked device. This means that the player can connect wirelessly to both the Internet and your home network. What does this offer you? Much more than a traditional Blu-ray player at about the same price.

Let’s have a quick look at the features of this LG device. If you have ever wondered how to watch downloaded movies on your top rated LCD TV, this is the way to go. Of course, you could learn how to connect your computer to your TV, but this involves a bunch of wires and moving your computer. This player connects directly to several movie download sources including Netflix, Vudu, and Netcast to let you watch virtually anything instantly on your TV without the computer as a middle man.

Additionally, this device allows you to connect to your computer wirelessly and display all of your computer media files including videos, photos, and music on your television.

On top of all of these features, it is also an outstanding Blu-ray player. So, if you are thinking of getting Blu-ray this Christmas, get the one Blu-ray player that does much more, the LG BD 390 Network Blu-ray Disc Player.

Find this player and much more on the Christmas Electronics page at the Christmas Store Online. The author, Richard Mas, is a technologist, retail specialist, and senior editor at The Christmas Store Online.

Analog vs. digital for blu beam player- whats better?
is analog being shut off by adjectives tv’s? whats the story about these two. please write somehting long and insightful. thanks In my judgment, I would go with digital. Source(s): Tony and the two black suffer cubs

Anime Releases within Blu-Ray?
OK, I haven’t really scouted the market much…I just get a Blu-Ray in my HTPC. Are any of the truly great anime (Miyazaki, NGE, Elfen Lied, etc.) available in Blu-Ray DVD as of on the other hand. I would especially be interested in Akira or Nausicaa. Help please? Thanks. ” Spirited Away ” …

Any appropriate dvd’s or blu sunbeam movies worth seeing?
something from 2008 and or 2009 Charlie Barlett its a cute movie with kat dennings. If you mean trial then there are plenty of clothed films to go and buy or rent and watch. 1. Gran Torino, I totally agree near below. It’s a brilliant film. 2. Che: Part 1…

Any apt Blu-Ray movies out? (Horror)?
I recently rented the horror flick The Unborn…not bad. I also like: Mirrors and The Knowing …I thought Mortuary was good (also funny).I am legend massively good.I really liked Signs.especially when the alien is first encounter in the cornfield. That defiantly be a scary scene.(also The Village) Friday the 13th franchise Wrong Turn…

Any bearing I can play a Blu-ray DVD on an familiar DVD player?
No, it won;t work that way. It works in the other direction: regular to Blu-Ray The big-wigs in the industry don’t want that to come about so it will force you to buy the new format. Chalk it up to market-…

Any Blu-Ray players that enjoy DVI-output?
Im getting a blu-ray player in the next few days, i hold a 55 rear projection HDTV but it only have dvi input and component, Is there any blu ray players that own a dvi output? I havent had good luck near a hdmi to dvi cable on my xbox, so I prefer not…

Any connections between blu sunbeam dvd and HD channel?
My parents just bought a 1080p HDTV, with blu sunbeam dvd player and HDMI cable, but we don’t have HD channels. Do we own to have HD channels surrounded by order for blu ray to work properly? I really don’t surmise there is any connections between these two but just want…

Any difference between the blu-ray surrounded by the PS3 and PS3 Slim?
i don’t really care about speed, more roughly speaking the quality. thank you! The one in the ps3 slim reads chips ahoy cookies and oreos. Doesnt read eggo waffle yet though sorry. No theres no difference. =D Source(s): The ps3 slim manual. The only difference between the ps3…

Any disadvantages contained by using playstation 3 primarily for blue streak dvd player?
i want to buy a blue ray dvd player, would i be better off buy a player itself? The leading disadvantage is the remote. The PS3 uses a Blue Tooth remote. As such there aren’t any universal remotes that are expert of operating it AND other devices…

Any fully clad anime available on Blu Ray?
I just got a blu-ray player, and I want to seize some anime for it, but all I’ve seen available is Dragon Ball Z (no interest within that) and Appleseed: Ex Machina. Any really cool anime available on Blu-Ray? “> decent anime is an oxymoron watch the organization

Any notion when a blu-ray box set of the Rocky movies will be released?
no release date has been announced Rambo I III Box Set, Blu-ray is available http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/33296/ram… http://www.monstersandcritics.com/dvd/ne…

Any opinion on the Panasonic Portable Blu-Ray Player?
Is the screen too small to show the benefits of HD? Will it Upscale my DVDs? Please try and tailor you answers towards the Layman and not the Technophile! Thank you. On a small screen, you are not going to see the benefit of Blu-ray.. Think PC screen, a high def…

Any PS3 experts out at hand that could serve me troubleshoot a blue-ray issue?
I have a PS3, I have have it for about 2 years, but use it very, really infrequently. Sometimes i go a month in between using it. For a long time adjectives i did was play games on it, but I recently purchased an HDTV…

Any updates for Sin City on blu sunbeam?
Have there been any recent updates as to when Sin City will be released on blu streak? It feels like its be over a year and a half since I last hear anybody talk about it. yeah i cant keep on till it comes out on blu ray. Sin City 2…

Any word on Wes Anderson movies coming out on blu-ray?
On the official Blu-ray webiste, they have a index of upcoming Blu-ray discs, yet there is nil about Bottle Rocket, Rushmore, The Royal Tenenbaums, The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou or The Darjeeling Limited. However, in that has been recent reach a deal of a Criterion edition DVD of Bottle…

Anybody agree next to me that dvd will other be more popular afterwards blu-ray?
i dont think dvd will ever be obsolete. The current cost to enjoy adjectives the benefits of Blu-ray scares a lot of potential customers sour. With time, the prices will drop, and I expect Blu-ray will become the standard. HDTV sales presently surpass those of standard…

Anybody hear anything give or take a few an x-box blue streak player?
sorry, before anybody calls me out for mortal dumb. xbox 360 Never gonna happen…Xbox 360 sucks i dont think microsoft will put together a separate blu ray player like within old HD DVD player since they would lose a lot of money on downloadable movies.

Anybody know if they plan to release Battlestar on Blu Ray?
Battlestar Galactica is a product of Universal Pictures, which was in the HD-DVD military camp. There were actually plans to release BSG surrounded by HD-DVD at the end of last year, but I don’t know if it ever happen (I have blu-ray myself). Now that blu-ray has…

Not even a year old and every time I put surrounded by a regular DVD it says no disc. It never has a problem playing blu-ray discs. I don’t devise its a firmware issue since even discs that were manufactured long before…

Anyone enjoy screenshots from a DVD upconverted on a Blu-Ray player compared to an actual Blu-Ray disc?
I already know that the Blu-Rays will look better no matter what, I was basically curious if anyone had side-by-side comparisions of a DVD upconverted by Blu-Ray and the Blu-Ray disc itself.
I can connect my Blu-ray player (PS3) to an SDTV to view Blu-Ray discs, right?
sure, it just won’t look that great. you might as resourcefully just get standard dvd’s fairly than blu-ray if they’re cheaper, because you’re not getting an added benefit from blu-ray with a standard-def tv. Yes you can, but judging by some of the views…

I can not carry my ps3 80g to play my blu-ray movies to play within the 120hz on my exotic 55 samsung120hz 1080p lcd?
help? Go to settings, BD, assign the type of connection you want for BD. If you hold an A/V receiver I recommend you to use HDMI for video only and Optical cable for audio, but you…

I can’t get hold of my Magnavox Blu-ray Disc Player Nb530mgx.to certify surround nouns what do i entail for this?
It only recognizes the front speakers I own a digital jack in and a red white and yellow lead along with a HDMI cable connected to my tv First past its sell-by date, does your A/V receiver have HDMI input/output?…

I can’t play pirated cd games on my ps2 or a blu stream cd?
it only plays original cd’s and dvd’s.. can i conversion the lens or upgrade/change the lens to read pirated games/cd/dvd/blu ray?or what part shouled i replace? You need to grasp your ps2 chipped. You will never get it to play Blu-ray discs. To seize your Ps2…

I close to to buy lg hb954tb blu beam home acting can any buddy explain to me how is it and review give or take a few it?
i like to buy this home theatre if some one own this one can u suggestion to me? Personally, I prefer Sony home theater, but I REALLY prefer Panasonic Blu Ray…

I collect Blu-Rays and am looking for a complete schedule of what is already out and what is to be released?
I have goggled this and I can find release dates for the subsequent several weeks but none for this whole year or what scheduled whats perchance going and what is not. And cant find any sort of list…

My BLU-ray laptop is connected to my LCD TV via a HDMI cable but when i play a blu gleam disc, it doesn’t play.?
even though it plays on the lap top alone. I get a message that my display does not support copy protected medium or is there a way round this? every article else on the laptop…

PS3 or Blue Ray Player?
I already own an X360 console and it plays some awesome looking games on my new Samsung 40 LCD 1080P TV but I need a Blue Ray player to play wager on movies in HD. Since either choice costs around equal amount of money should I buy a PS3 or just a stand-alone player?…

What is blu gleam ?
Sony Blu-ray Disc Player with 1080p Output.what is it.i know its a new type of dvd player.when you examine a movie its better quality?is it the same story for every TV?? Here’s a link which explains how Blu-ray Disc players can make ANY small screen look better (and more importantly, ANY stereo system…

what is the differnts between blue sunbeam and regular dvd?
Increased video Resolution : The Blu-Ray disk offers 480p, 720p and 1080i resolutions. Better video codec support : MPEG-4 AVC High Profile and VC-1 will be supported, within additional to the MPEG-2 format used by current DVDs. Enhanced graphics : More than one graphics plane one plane…

Which one of these Blue Ray Players is the Best?
Sony Blu-ray Disc Player with 1080p Output Model: BDP-S350 OR Samsung Blu-ray High-Definition Disc Player with 1080p Output Model: BD-P1500 “> Sony BDP-S350. It looks close to the Sony model is better: http://reviews.cnet.com/video-players-an… http://reviews.cnet.com/video-players-an… Although it doesn’t seem like any one…

$helling 600 more for ES Sony blue shaft of light worth it?
I’ve heard great things about Sony’s spanking new ES (Elevated Standard) Blue ray, the BDP-S2000ES. Premium build, and dedicated circuitry for audio and video. It’s also 600 dollars more than the BDP-S550, which also get fairly good reviews. So is the 600 dollars worth it (the ES…

The Office on blu beam?
Anyone know or have evidence of when the office might be released on blu shaft of light. why buy on bluray when you can download for free at http://www.tvfreeload.com

Wanted on Blu Ray competence?
How is the quality of the movie Wanted on blu ray compared to other blu streak movies? Does it look nice compared to other blu ray movies? Dude, all blu sunbeam movies are high def and look super clean, but yeah, i guess because of the graphics used surrounded by wanted it looks better than…

(blu ray) is hdmi and analog audio hold indistinguishable level?10 points!?
No with HDMI, optical, or digital coax you can get up to 7.1 Dolby stereo whereas you can individual get plain old stereo out of analog. Back a few years ago some devices have 5 separate analog connections so you could get Dolby 5.1, but they don’t do…

(Blu-ray/DVD Combo + Digital Copy w/ 3D) [Blu-ray]?
what does that mean. do u get the blueray altered copy and standard edition of the movie plus the digital copy? You get the Blu-Ray version, a DVD of the movie, and a digital copy of the movie.

(samsung bdp 1500 blu ray) can i plug stereo analog cable to 5.1 subway system?
will it get hd audio? I don’t know, but Sarah Palin can see Russia from her house! yes you can You can connect it and get nouns but it won’t be 5.1 and it certainly won’t be HD audio. For 5.1 you need at lowest…

*Special* Blu-Ray Movies?
Anyone know where I can find *special* (wink-wink) Blu-Ray movies? I’m not looking for a particular franchise, but a group to choose from… Um.are you meaning pornographic movies or snuff films? I doubt that those movies will be upgraded to blue ray. The ones that are already out on other platforms, explicitly. The new 2008…

.how can i burn GTA 4 on commonplace dvd as the hobby is of 12 gb and requires blue stream?
You can’t. Even if you could take out the extra copies so it would fit on a DVD, the PS3 only recognize blu-ray discs as games not to mention you’d still need to mod your PS3 to play pirated…

??’s in the region of the current slate of Blue beam players?
Ever since the end of the BR/HDDVD format war concluding winter (Feb 2008), i have been waiting for stand-alone BR Players to drop significantly surrounded by price. Thus far they have dropped only minisculy. The root I keep putting buying one off is $399 for a…

{P}{O}{L}{L} How Many DVD’s/Blue gleam Disk do you own?
?? none At least 30 dvd, 1 blu-ray, 8 X-box games, 6 wii games, and 3 ps3 games 0 maybe I’ll receive one from Santa. over 700 dvd’s and zero BluRay I will not upgrade to BluRay until it is required. A few dozen DVDs, no Blu Ray. I don’t…

10 Best Movies to Buy contained by Blue Ray?
Picture.. Color.. Make your eyes say.. WOW Terminator 2 is a must. Anyway check http://www.dvdcent.com for more. The Matrix 300 Rambo (4) Sin City Starship Troopers Terminator 2 Source(s): I don’t hold Blu-Ray (yet) but I think those movies would look great. Here are 10 I have and LOVE…

1080i or blue gleam?
which is better honestly plz on a 47 hd ready tv or blue ray i enjoy a ps3 and i was wondering to buy a hdmi cable but i want to know if it is worth it so which is better blue-ray or 1080i plzzzzzzzzz tell me a hdmi is definitly worth…

1080i panasonic blu-ray player on a 1080p samsung tv?
I’ve got a panasonic blu-ray player that only give me the option to go up to 1080i within the options menu of the blu-ray player, but my tv is capable of 1080p. Am I sacrifice some picture quality by this? If so should I be searching for a 1080p blu-ray player,…

1080i tv for a blu-ray player ?
Hi, WOuld like to know if i can buy a 1080i hd tv for the purpose of hooking a blu-ray player to it ? I know i won’t get the full hd experience that i would own with a 1080p full hd tv. I know that blu-ray player have a full hd…

1080i vizio plasma connected to a samsung bdp-2500 blu streak 1080p?
i have a vizio 1080i plasma in the kinfolk room. i also have a 1080p vizio lcd tv in my bedroom. i newly bought the newer samsung bdp-2500 blu ray player which says it is 1080p. which tv should i hook it up to for the best picture or…

1080p DVD Up Converter Compared to a Blue-Ray?
I plan on getting a DVD up converter for my 1080P Samsung. I’m wondering, does it really up convert your DVD movies to 1080P HD? If so, if you had a DVD up converter and a Blue-Ray, will both be the same picture element? Your TV automatically up-converts any video to…

12 see AVI video report will obtain compressed when burned onto DVD. Would it attain compressed if burned to blue gleam?
I’m looking to burn home video’s from the super 8 reels and vhs tapes on DVD. I enjoy uploaded them to my hard drive and have edited them. They are adjectives in AVI format at about 12…

2 blu-ray question ( 1st existent detailed answer get 10 ) HURRY !!?
1. if i were to get my ps3 refurbished from sony due to a blu-ray problem how much would it cost surrounded by (euro’s please) 2. can i take my ps3 into a sony centre to return with a blu ray drive installed ? best article…

3 blu stream players which is the best?
I bought 3 blu ray players today… Magnavox nb500mg9 for $129 Sony bdp-s350 for $179 Samsung bd-p1500 for $189 SOOOOooo I went for a while overboard with the blu rays for black friday but I didnt know which one to get so I get them all and…

3 flawless ps3 games + blue stream?
i’m getting a ps3 and i want to start off with 3 righteous games. I was thinking Metal Gear solid 4, infamous, and resistance 2. Are these good choices? And what righteous blue ray movies are out there? Little Big Planet is a fantastic game. Also Street Fighter 4 and Motorstorm Pacific…

300 movie blue beam problem?
is it the tv or is it the blue ray.. i just played it on my ps3 and its really coarse. even though i’m running it on 1080p. “> take it back umm blue rays are inferior they are said to be. it mught be the tv, but i doubt it. …

I have had this product in my home for a month now and am a lot more than happy using the image high quality in any mode. It boots up almost immediately and also works nicely with my Sony LCD tv, the remote about the tv and this bluray can operate each tools and electricity them together on/off. I’ve tried playing blu rays and dvd’s plus they equally commence up right away. I’ve observed other bluray players plus they usually can get up to 30+ seconds to boot up and play movies, this one doesnt. There’s a sleep/low energy mode offered which also can make the boot up even quicker but I didn’t test that nor do We have it on considering I don’t want it to consistently be on when it ought to be off.

The player features a ton of functions for world wide web video – youtube, amazon unbox, netflix and an assortment of other world-wide-web channels. You will find also radio stations offered also. These all perform quite well and have absolutely a unified interface to interact with their respective stores/download locations. Sony also spent time customizing the player for each and every of these web streams to become the exact same so you use a unified layout for all of it. They did a genuinely great job right here. I summarize pros and cons for this Sony BDP-N460 Blu-ray Disc Player as followings
Pros: Super effortless to setup, does every thing it claims to try and do, great remote with powerful signal, effortless intuitive menu navigation, smooth streaming of web content material, broad variety of web content material in comparison with stable competing client products, flawless firmware update, fantastic picture and sound excellent, smart timing of screensaver/power off

Cons: Could use a broader world-wide-web service choice (Pandora, Last.fm, Blockbuster, Hulu, Fancast would be fantastic additions — are you listening, Sony?), wireless isn’t included (but if you would like a trusted connection, you desire wired anyway), no preview on quickly forward or rewind

I’ve watched numerous several hours of streaming movie (various content providers, such as various dozen hours of Netflix, some Sony, YouTube, and others), and have absolutely had 2 jaggy blips inside a single minute of one particular program and otherwise both video and audio have been flawless. It’s far and away additional dependable than Comcast OnDemand. I’m contemplating cancelling my cable Television subscription and just heading with streaming and discs. YouTube streaming is excellent for children or for parties, since you’ll be able to retain proceeding from just one movie for the following in a search or subscription, so create a research for that minor a single to watch a bunch of Muppets clips or set up a stream from your favorite DJ and you’re great to go

The progression of setting up the Sony and Netflix articles may well be a little irritating if your BDP-N460 and pc are far apart, due to the fact you do have got to do a tiny back again and forth in between the player and pc, however it need to be much less than a minute every (not counting travel time to obtain from a single on the other), and you only ought to do it once.

Summary: for me, this can be primarily a streaming device that also takes place to participate in DVDs, BDs, and CDs. Which has a wired connection and stable high-speed world-wide-web, it performs fabulously and is considerably of enjoyable. I would suggest it to a friend without hesitation.

If you had an LG BD370 Blu-ray disc player , you would be watching the movie of your choice. The LG BD370 performs beyond expectations but falls a little short of quantity quality. The interface of the LG BD370 is pretty straight forward there isn’t anything confusing about it. As long as you know what options you are looking for you will find it.

The LG BD370 Blu-ray player has an HDMI 1.3 port that can output 7.1-channel sound and 1080i/p visuals. Component and composite video out connections are provided, as is a digital optical audio port. The LG BD370 is a thoroughly capable machine, and wrapped with a design that won’t look out of place under even the swankiest HD TV. Unless you’re desperate to play games on a PlayStation 3, this is one of the best Blu-ray machines in the world. Flipping down the panel in the front of the LG BD370 gives the consumer access to several more functions on the device including the accessible port where a drive can be inserted. If preferred, the consumer can operate the disc player with a remote that offers a number of control options.

Of course, the PlayStation 3 still looms like the Close Encounters mother ship over the whole preceding, but fabulous little players like the LG BD370 are making the step to Blu-ray that much more enticing. But best of all its $250 price tag makes it excellent value for money, putting it right up there with the LG BD370 and Panasonic DMP-BD60 in the holy trinity of budget Blu-ray decks. The LG BD370 is the entry-level successor to the BD300, and it’s very similar with the main upgrades being onboard decoding for DTS-HD Master Audio Essential and faster load times.

Moreover, this LG BD370 disc player will permit users to browse the entire CinemaNow premium content catalog, instantly stream content, and access and view movies bought from other CinemaNow-powered stores. It’s a well-known fact that CinemaNow is the first broadband distributor of high definition content. Right out of the box, it didn’t take long at all for the LG BD370 Blu-ray player to upload discs. For this review, I viewed a copy of Slumdog Millionaire, and it only took 14.17 seconds for the disc to load. Amazon has the LG BD370 network Blu-ray disc player for $217 plus freeshipping if you order today.

Instant streaming content from Netflix to an HDTV via the LG BD370 requires a broadband connection and a Netflix membership (free trial available). You can use the Netflix Web site to add movies and TV episodes to your individual instant Queue, and those choices will automatically be displayed on and available to watch instantly through the HDTV. I made a mistake with my first LG BD370 by updating the firmware first, not knowing the newer firmware actually block any attempt of hacking the region code.

For the best prices online, check out James Danielson’s http://bd370.net website. Get a new open box BD370 that often sell for at least $100 discount off of suggested retail. The deal is that an open box is really a new product that has been returned and still has the exact same warranty as a never opened product. It may have been turned on and tried out. Most open box products that I have seen are not “scratch and dent.” They look brand new. You just get a huge price break!

Released in 2009, the BDP-S360 from Sony is a great entry level Blu-ray Player. While it does not provide any features beyond the basics, the BDP-S360 is a Profile 2.0 player that supports BD-Live Content, Bonus View(PIP) and has excellent image and audio quality. Lacking online internet streaming media services, Wi-Fi connectivity or DLNA support, the BDP-S360 focuses all its attention on High Definition Blu-ray and DVD playback. You will have to look elsewhere if you want extra features.

Small in its design, the BDP-S360 is only 16.9 inches wide by 2.2 inches high and 8.1 inches in depth. It is a combination of a sleek glossy finish with touches of conservative elements. It will not be a standout feature in your Home Entertainment theater, but should blend in nicely. The dark, glass like front panel flips open, revealing the disc loading tray. The player itself does not have many controls, you will have to use the Remote Control to navigate the player’s operations. The remote is easy to use but does not have a Open/Close button which might not appeal to some consumers. A universal remote can be used to remedy this as the BDP-S360 will support receiving an Open/Close IR command.

Most of the inputs and outputs are located on the back of the player, including a USB Port. It is important to note that this USB Port is recessed into the player, encompassed by plastic. This small opening will not support larger USB devices.

Video Quality: The BDP-S360 has a HDMI Output, a Component Video Outputs, and Composite Video Outputs. HDMI will provide great images with resolution options of 480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i, 1080p/60, and 1080p/24. You can choose between three different types of picture modes – Standard, Brighter Room and Theater Room and choose types of noise reduction. For your DVD playback, it offers up scaling to near High Definition levels.

Audio Quality: Audio connections are the HDMI Output, Digital Outputs (Optical and Coaxial) and 2.0-ch Analog Outputs. Unfortunately, the BDP-S360 does not have 7.1-ch Analog Audio Outputs, so you can not connect to a non HDMI Audio/Video Receiver. However, the BDP-S360 does have internal audio decoding for Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio and can transfer these High Resolution audio formats in their native bitstream form through a HDMI cable, for a Audio/Video Reviver to decode. Audio can be adjusted by using the A/V Sync, the Dynamic Range Compression options and an audio filter for analog signals.

On the back of the Blu-ray Player is an Ethernet Port to connect to the internet. This will allow access to any BD-Live content found on certain Blu-ray Discs and for firmware updates. Downloading any BD-Live content will require an external storage device, such as a USB Flash Drive, since the BDP-S360 has no internal storage memory. The USB Port does not support playback of any digital music or photos. But the BDP-S360′s disc drive does support the following – BD, DVD, CD audio, AVCHD, MP3, and JPEG playback.

While the lack of any streaming Video On Demand services puts the BDP-S360 at a disadvantage with other entry level Blu-ray Players. It more than makes up for it by proving great image and audio quality on Blu-ray and DVD playback. If you are not interested in any VOD features, the BDP-S360 may be a good fit for you.

THE PROS: Sony’s BDP-S360 Blu-ray Player is a Profile 2.0 player. It has internal audio decoding for Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio Essential. It produces great image quality on Blu-ray disc.

THE CONS: New Blu-ray models provide online streaming services such as Netflix or Vudu. Has an Ethernet Port but no Wi-Fi. Strangely no eject button on the remote, which can be annoying. Load times are slow compared to it contemporary models.

THE FINAL WORD: Sony’s BDP-S360 provides great video and audio quality on playback of Blu-ray discs. But it does not have online streaming media and slower load times. –Price you should look for when purchasing — Under $150.00

There is no denying the fact that while the PlayStation 3 has not performed the best when compared to other gaming consoles. It has consistently ranked high on many best of Blu-ray Player lists. A recent poll conducted by Nielson rating system showed 65% of the people who purchased a PlayStation 3 did so because they wanted a Blu-ray Player. Clearly, many people still view it as a good Blu-ray option. But why would anyone still consider it the best Blu-ray Player on the market. By today’s standards it is a rather old piece of equipment, having first been released a few years ago. Here are some reasons why many still perceive the PlayStation 3 to be the best Blu-ray Player and will be for some time to come.

It’s Not Just a Blu-ray Player

Sony has made the PlayStation 3 into a multi-purpose entertainment system. It is a gaming console, upscaling DVD player, Blu-ray Player and has many other multimedia capabilities. Obviously, the fact that it is a gaming console is the big difference when compared with other Blu-ray Players. The PlayStation 3 can play video games like Grand Theft Auto IV, Uncharted 2 and Little Big Planet. And with the release of a firmware upgrade, it will be capable of 3D Video Gaming. This is a nice extra feature for those just looking to buy a Blu-ray Player.

Many predict the future of home Entertainment will not be Blu-ray but streaming digital media. If this is the case, Sony has prepare the PlayStation 3 to handle digital streaming and distribution. The PlayStation 3 is DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance) certified. Meaning you can connect the PlayStation 3 to your Home Network, via the Ethernet Port or built-in Wi-Fi, and stream data from your computer or mobile device to the PlayStation 3. With it’s PlayStation Network you can download High Definition videos and TV shows. And Sony recently added online streaming media services in it’s deal with Netflix. The simple fact is, no other Blu-ray Player can provide the consumer with such a high return value for their investment.

Blu-ray Quality

A few years ago, the PlayStation 3 was really the only game in town when one considered to purchase a Blu-ray Player. This is no longer true. Today there are many stand-alone players that perform extremely well, producing great video and audio quality. However, the PlayStation 3 still holds up rather well when compared to the new Blu-ray models. It still has very fast operational and disc loading speeds. With 1080p playback via HDMI, it produces excellent image quality on both Blu-rays and DVDs. Audio quality is equally impressive. The PS3 supports internal audio decoding for Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Digital Plus, DTS-HD Master Audio and DTS-HD High Resolution Audio. With the new PS3 Slim you can bitstream out Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio to your A/V receiver to decode over HDMI. Also, with the new PS3 Slim you get 55% less power consumption when playing Blu-rays. A feature that should appeal to many consumers.

Sony’s Investment

In the High Definition format wars between Blu-ray and HD-DVD, Sony sided with Blu-ray and helped create and develop the HD format. Needless to say, Sony has a lot invested in Blu-ray’s success. Adding Blu-ray to the PlayStation 3 was an attempt to secure this success. It provided a great feature other gaming console did not have. To compete with the other gaming console Sony has to keep it’s Blu-ray Player relevant. The only way to do this is to continue to upgrade the Blu-ray Player on the PlayStation 3.

PlayStation 3 is Future Proof

The PlayStation 3 is a Profile 2.0 Blu-ray Player. So as Blu-ray technology continues to develop, PlayStation 3 owners are able to download firmware to update the players features and functions. For example, many experts predict 3D viewing will be the next big thing in the home entertainment market. To view 3D movies a 3D Blu-ray Player is required. Those who own a PlayStation 3 will not have to invest in purchasing new equipment. Sony will release a firmware upgrade making their system capable of playing 3D Blu-ray Discs. The benefits of this are limitless, as there will certainly be other upgrades to Blu-ray technology in the future. The PlayStation 3 is able to accomplish this due to its extremely powerful internal processor, large hard drive and peripheral support.
