I bought this player for what I understand are its multi-zone capabilities. While I haven’t tested that yet, the unit is quick to start and load a disc. In addition, the quality of the picture seems to be as good as my Oppo 83 and Pioneer BDP-51FD. Upconversion of DVDs also seems to be quite good. All for about $170 delivered from Amazon. Good deal. What would make it a five star? More connectivity options. Great deal for the money.

Bought it. Got it. Hooked it up and…
Took over 30 minutes for initial boot up (websites say it should take 6-10 seconds). Then watched “CARS”. Played fine, then powered it down for the evening. Next morning, with disc still in it, it wouldn’t boot up. Tried unplugging and replugging in the power as the book suggested. Couldn’t eject disc either. There is no over ride for this. After four hours (that’s right!), it finally opened the disc tray. Then it froze again, with the tray stuck open. After unplugging and replugging, the tray shut, but then it displayed a strange pattern on the screen.
I was on HDMI at the time, but I tried switching to componant, and composite thinking maybe it was a configuration issue during the process. Believe me, I let it sit for much time in each configuration thinking that it would figure out it’s own problem.
Junk! Got it because of the ease of making it region free, but I think they must be pumping them out with no quality control since it is one of the few that can do region free so easily, and it’s in high demand. Avoid until Quality assurance returns to this company (Sherwood is getting these from Momitsu, a clone of the Momitsu 899)
Attempting to return it for full refund, but now they want me to pay the shipping. Once received, the retailer will give me a couple free shipping coupons for future orders, which is acceptable.
Replaced it with a Samsung P1600, which can also be made region free, but it is much more complex as it involved updating the player wth the firmware for the region you are seeking to play. Funny thing is that each region has different options. For example, when you no longer have the firmware for North America in the P1600, you may lose the youtube and netflix options…
The Samsung P1600 is working great. Very very fast startup time, and disc loads up in less than 6 seconds normally. I am very happy with the new P1600 blu ray player.

quick delivery from ritzcamera. nice blu-ray that plays any region disc. only downfall is the loud click when loading and hum when playing.
