Won’t work with my Linksys USB wireless N adapter. Manual says it is only compatible with a Samsung wireless adapter that costs another $79. This player is going back. Also making a loud grinding noise when it powers up and down.

After reading the negative reviews I was very reluctant to purchase this BluRay player. However, a friend of a friend, who professionally installs home theater systems, recommended it and I found it for less than $130 at a “club” store, so I bought it.
Knowing that firmware upgrades have been its down fall, as soon as I took it out of the box and connected it to my Samsung LCD HDTV via the included HDMI cable (only on the 1590c model) I downloaded the new firmware on my PC from the Samsung website. After unzipping it, I copy the resulting file to an empty USB memory stick and followed the direction. 10 minutes later (they tell you to do the procedure twice) I was done.
As I have only had the unit a few days, I admit that I have not done a thorough evaluation. It does an excellent job of “upverting” DVDs and plays DVD+R even though the manual does not include them in the supported media list.
Definitely “great bang for the buck” !

I purchased this as a gift for my mother. I expected to buy the “wireless blu-ray player” and a wireless access point and be ready to watch programming from the Internet including Netflix.
Couple of big problems. #1) The unit is wireless upgradable I guess. It supports the installation of a USB wireless dongle of which only one particular dongle is supported, its the highly overpriced Samsung dongle which isn’t available anywhere in North Carolina at any retail outlet! There go my plans for setting up the unit for my Mom. 65 bucks for a wireless dongle? I can get these back home in generic form for about 15 bucks! Knowing what I do now, I wouldn’t buy this unit. There are many other units with wireless included for less money if you add 65 bucks to this price. I would have returned this one, but it was a gift.
#2) Watchout, there’s no captioning support for the online service providers in this player. It’s a problem for any player with Netflix as they don’t encode the data into the stream and we couldn’t figure out how to display captions with any other stream.

added wireless lan adapter but had trouble getting it to connect via WEP or WPA to home WiFi access point..ended up using powerline ethernet connection.

Bought the unit at Costco. I was playing my first Blu-Ray and all was going great, then it froze. I could not get it to do anything. I had to power it down and start over. It did it again, and again. Looked up trouble shooting, got the firmware update and pluged it in. That is when everything froze and I called customer service. That was on Sept 9. CS said they would send me a flash drive. To make a long story short I returned it back to Costco on Oct 23. After many calls and being given the direct line to EXECUTIVE CUSTOMER SERVICE who promiced that firmware was mailed and on the way I gave up. No way to treat someone who has invested good money in Samsung products. I have a 46″ LCD a 52″ LCD and a 3600 Blu-Ray and hope I will never need (LOL) Customer Service.

I purchased the Samsung 1590 at Costco ab out 9 months ago, and I purchased the wireless dongle so we could stream Netflix. Streaming video worked great, however we had several movies from Netflix freeze up right in the middle and we couldn’t watch them. I blamed Neflix orginally but now I am not so sure. I have 3 DVD’s that I purchased for my Granddaughter–all play fine. I purchased another one a couple of months ago from Amazon.com, it would not play-I gave it to my daughter and it played fine on theirs. Yesterday, I purchased 3 more videos from Walmart for my Granddaughter–and not one would play–two of them loaded but the picture was gibberish, the third one would not even load, I am so frustrated, I don’t know what to do. I will not purchase another Samsung product.
