MakeMKV is your one-click solution to convert video that you own into free and patents-unencumbered format that can be played everywhere. MakeMKV is a format converter, otherwise called “transcoder”. It converts the video clips from proprietary (and usually encrypted) disc into a set of MKV files, preserving most information but not changing it in any way. The Sony Bravia KDL-46V3000 46″ 1080p LCD HDTV is an elegant looking set with its piano black frame. The black finish is reflective, but not annoyingly shiny like a mirror as long as you don’t put it directly in front of a light source. It’s a serious looking LCD HDTV with its black finish and anti-glare screen. Not only does it look nice aesthetically, but it looks awesome where it counts the most, the picture.

I have both an LG BD390 and an LG BD370. I can only keep one. The 370 is rock-solid and plays really well. But, it’s missing a key feature that the 390 has: network browsing. The 390 is great and very featureful, however.. it’s flakey! See the video for some examples. Another that I couldn’t show since it’s so random is the sometimes the HDMI connection goes whack: the display is all pink and the audio is cut out.
Setup is fairly easy and straightforward, as the technology has matured. Be aware that one of the places where they cut costs is by removing connection ports for legacy hardware; you may need to buy some external adapter cables if you’ve got some vintage gear you’re still determined to hook into this rig.
What sets this system apart is the superb sound quality. Many people who’ve never experienced a Dolby 7.2 surround system before are completely unprepared for the crystal clarity it gives, and it may completely change your opinion of music. (We recommend looking up La Villa Strangiato by Rush, which has nuances that you won’t believe until you hear them on a Dolby 7.2 system.)
